What is Gainsight?

Gainsight is a customer success platform that has expanded well beyond the category it defined, now covering four distinct product lines from one customer record: Customer Success, a Product Experience Platform, Customer Communities, and Skilljar for customer education, with Staircase AI and Atlas AI Agents layered across them.

That breadth is the reason to consider it and the reason to be careful. The argument for consolidation is genuine: churn is rarely caused by one thing, and the signals live in different systems. A customer who has stopped using a key feature, has not attended training, has gone quiet in the community and has an open support escalation is visibly at risk when those four facts sit together, and invisible when they sit in four tools owned by three teams.

The Product Experience Platform is the most consequential of the additions, because product usage data is the earliest reliable churn signal available. A customer whose usage declines is at risk months before they say anything, and a customer success team working only from meeting notes and support tickets is reading lagging indicators.

Skilljar addresses adoption directly. Customers who never learn to use what they bought churn, and treating education as a first-class part of retention rather than as marketing content is a defensible position.

Gainsight Essentials and Gainsight CS for SAP Sales Cloud are packaged separately, and use cases are published for digital customer hubs, scale and efficiency, retention, expansion and product adoption, with role-based paths for customer success, product, customer experience, revenue and sales, IT and analytics, executives and community teams.

Gainsight FAQs

A pricing page is published but no plan figure was retrievable during this review. Customer success platforms are normally quoted on customer count or revenue managed, so establish both first.

Churn is rarely caused by one thing. A customer with declining usage, no training, community silence and an open escalation is visibly at risk when those facts sit together and invisible when they sit in four tools.

Product usage. A customer whose usage declines is at risk months before they say anything, so a team working only from meeting notes and support tickets is reading lagging indicators.

Because customers who never learn to use what they bought churn. Skilljar treats education as part of retention rather than as marketing content, which is where it actually belongs.

Gainsight Essentials is published separately, alongside a Gainsight CS edition for SAP Sales Cloud. Establish which product lines you need before assuming the full platform is the right starting point.
