Friend Emojis are the small icons next to names on your Chat screen. Snapchat assigns them automatically based on how you and each friend use the app, so they change as your habits change.
What each Friend Emoji means

| 😊 | BFs | One of your Best Friends, but not your #1. |
| 😬 | Mutual Besties | Your #1 Best Friend is also their #1 Best Friend. |
| 😎 | Mutual BFs | One of your Best Friends is also one of theirs. |
| 🔥 | Streak | You are on a Snapstreak; the number shows how many days in a row you have Snapped each other. |
| ⌛ | Streak is ending | Your Streak ends soon unless you both send a Snap within 24 hours. |
| 🎂 | Birthday | It is your friend’s birthday, based on the date they entered on Snapchat. |
Things to know
- They change on their own. Because they reflect recent activity, a friend can move from one emoji to another or lose an emoji entirely.
- Lost emojis cannot be restored. Snapchat Support cannot add, restore or replace Friend Emojis, including BFF and Super BFF.
- Only you see your emojis. You can swap any of them for a different emoji in settings; see our guide on changing Snapchat emojis.
- Snapchat+ subscribers can also see where they rank in a friend’s Best Friends list through the Friend Solar System.
