What is Synfig Studio?

Synfig Studio is a free and open-source 2D animation program for creating film-quality vector and bitmap animation. It uses vector tweening to automatically calculate inbetween frames, removing much of the manual frame-by-frame work found in traditional animation, and offers over 50 layer types covering shapes, gradients, filters, and fractals.

The software includes a full-featured bone system for cutout animation and a skeleton distortion layer for bitmap artwork, plus parameter linking through mathematical expressions for building advanced character puppets.
