Lumivero NVivo

NVivo, now part of Lumivero, is qualitative data analysis software used to code and interpret interviews, documents and other unstructured material. The current release adds an AI assistant that summarises documents, refines coding and simplifies jargon.

Coding is the central activity and it is laborious. A researcher reads transcripts and tags passages against themes, iterating as the themes change, and a study with forty interviews represents weeks of that work before any analysis begins.

AI assistance is genuinely contested here rather than uniformly welcomed, and the objection is methodological rather than technical. In much qualitative research the close reading is itself the analysis, and a researcher who accepts machine suggested codes may lose the understanding that emerges from doing it slowly. Whether that matters depends on the tradition being worked in.

Pricing was captured from the India shop in rupees, at ₹24,217.33 and ₹48,337.78 annually with a further ₹2,906.08 option, so a buyer elsewhere should check their own regional store. Academic and student pricing differs substantially from commercial rates throughout this category, so the figure that applies depends as much on who is buying as on what is bought.
