Katana is cloud inventory and manufacturing management built around real-time visibility, covering inventory, manufacturing, purchasing and order management as connected functions rather than separate modules.

The problem it addresses is specific to small manufacturers selling across channels. A business making its own products and selling them through a website, a marketplace and wholesale accounts has the same physical stock supporting three demand streams, and each channel believes it can sell what is available. Without a live view, the business either oversells and disappoints customers or holds excess stock as insurance, and both are expensive.

Manufacturing complicates it further, because available stock is not just what is on the shelf but what could be made from the components on the shelf. Answering whether an order can be fulfilled requires knowing the bill of materials, current component stock, what is already committed to other orders and how long production takes.

Channel syncing and order tracking are published as core, keeping sales channels aligned with actual availability, and purchasing is framed around buying the right items at the right time to keep sales moving, which is the correct framing since purchasing exists to serve production rather than as an independent function.
