WPS Office from Kingsoft is a free office suite covering documents, spreadsheets, presentations and PDF, built around Microsoft format compatibility and an unusually deep set of AI tools.

Compatibility is the first hurdle any alternative suite has to clear, and WPS states plainly that every file opens smoothly with no formatting issues. That single claim decides adoption for most people, because a suite that reflows a colleague's document is one you use once.

The AI features are more specific than most. Parallel translation handles Word and PDF documents side by side, an AI presentation maker generates and beautifies slide decks from an idea, WPS Writer drafts essays, blogs and letters, and the PDF tools summarise documents and let you hold a conversation with them to extract insights. Photo editing adds quality enhancement and element removal.

The privacy framing is deliberate and worth noting given where the AI features run. WPS states that data is fully encrypted end to end, that it does not share data or work with external parties that might compromise privacy, and that users control their own usage analytics and privacy settings. For a suite whose AI processes document contents, those commitments are the relevant ones to evaluate. A free tier exists, with paid plans at $5.83 per month billed annually at $69.99, and a lower tier at $2.49 per month or $29.99 a year.
