IFTTT connects services so that an event in one triggers an action in another, using simple no-code integrations. The name describes the model exactly: if this, then that, which is the whole of the logic and the reason it reached an audience no other automation tool did.

Simplicity is the strategic choice and the tradeoff is real. IFTTT does not attempt the branching logic and error handling that developer oriented automation platforms provide, and in exchange somebody with no technical background can connect two services in a minute without understanding what an API is.

Consumer and smart home use is where it became widely known, connecting lights, thermostats, cameras and phones in combinations no manufacturer anticipated. That is genuinely valuable because device makers build for their own ecosystems and IFTTT sits across them.

Pricing runs from a free tier at zero, with a paid tier at two dollars ninety nine per month or thirty five dollars eighty eight annually, and a stated forty percent saving on yearly billing. At that price the question is not whether it is worth the money but whether the free tier's limits bind, which for most personal use they simply do not. The paid tier earns its cost for someone running many applets or needing them to fire promptly rather than on a slow polling cycle.
