Updated October 2026: Instagram confirms that when you view a story, the owner can tell you have seen it. Several viewer sites from the earlier version of this guide have since closed.
Instagram shows Story owners exactly who viewed their Story, and its help pages say there is no setting to hide that. The only ways to watch without appearing in the list involve stepping outside the app.
Option 1: Viewer websites (public accounts only)
Viewer sites load public Stories on their own servers, so your account is not added to the viewer list. As of October 2026:
- Working: Dumpor, Imginn and MollyGram.
- Merged: SmiHub and GreatFon now forward to Dumpor.
- Changed: Picuki now redirects to a TikTok viewer.
- Offline: Instalkr, Instanavigation, Iganony, Insacret and StoriesDown.

Option 2: A second account
A separate account the person does not recognise will appear in the viewer list under its own name. This works for public accounts and any private account that has approved it as a follower.
What does not work
- Airplane mode tricks are unreliable; views are often recorded once you reconnect.
- No tool can show private accounts’ Stories.
- Apps or sites asking for your Instagram login are a security risk.
Safety
Never enter your password on a viewer site, ignore downloads and extensions they push, and remember these sites break Instagram’s terms, which is why they keep shutting down.
