Running the research inside the roadmapping tool is the newer and more interesting half of the product. AI-moderated research surveys with customers, held in the same system that holds the roadmap, closes a gap that usually costs weeks: research is normally commissioned separately, delivered as a document, and then interpreted by whoever reads it before any of it reaches a prioritisation decision. Evidence attached directly to an initiative is available at the moment the argument about priority happens.

Roadmap presentation remains the foundation and it is what most teams buy first. A roadmap is a communication artefact more than a planning one, since its job is to tell executives, sales, support and engineering the same story about what is coming, and a roadmap that different audiences read differently is worse than none. ProductPlan reports 23 percent faster release cycles among its customers and 14 million roadmap items shipped.

Portfolio views handle organisations running several products, with prioritisation, idea capture, user research and customer intelligence as distinct capabilities. Industry material covers professional services, finance and banking, insurance, retail and manufacturing, software and government and nonprofits, and the company publishes an annual State of Product Management report running past 110 pages.
