Proofpoint now markets this product simply as Proofpoint Archive, within a suite it calls Digital Communications Governance. Anyone searching for Enterprise Archive is looking for the same cloud archiving service, and the components described here are what Proofpoint currently ships.

The suite separates capture from storage, which matters more than it sounds. Proofpoint Capture collects and centralises the channels employees actually use, spanning mobile, meetings, enterprise collaboration, social media, email, voice and files, and it can deliver that content into Proofpoint's own archive or into any third party archive instead. A compliance team is rarely free to abandon an incumbent archive, so a capture layer that feeds either one removes the usual all or nothing migration.

Archive itself is a SaaS archiving service holding a PCI DSS compliance attestation, which Proofpoint notes only a few archives have achieved. Around it sit Patrol for social media compliance, Track for reconciling what was sent against what actually landed in the archive, Discover for in house e-discovery culling, and Prism Investigator for defensible investigations.

Track deserves attention because it addresses the failure nobody notices until an audit. Reconciling archived records against sent records is normally manual, so gaps go undetected for years.
