Vermeg supplies software to banks, insurers and capital markets participants, spanning regulatory reporting, collateral management through its Colline product, and insurance systems. Serving all three from one company is unusual and reflects a European rather than American shape.

Collateral management is the most technically demanding of those and the least understood outside the industry. When two institutions trade derivatives, each posts collateral against the other's exposure, that exposure moves daily with the market, and calculating who owes what to whom across thousands of positions is a genuine computational problem with a legal deadline attached.

Regulatory reporting is the volume problem rather than the complexity one. European institutions report to several authorities in prescribed formats that change on legislative timetables, and the reports must reconcile with each other and with the accounts, so the difficulty is consistency at scale rather than any individual calculation.

Being European headquartered matters for a practical reason in this field. Regulatory software is only as good as its coverage of the specific regimes a customer reports under, and a vendor whose home market is the one generating those rules tends to implement them earlier than one adapting from elsewhere.
