SmartRecruiters provides talent acquisition software on what the vendor calls the SmartOS platform, covering applicant tracking, candidate relationship management, onboarding, SMS messaging and job distribution, published with a specific offering for organisations running SAP SuccessFactors, available in English, German and French.

The SAP SuccessFactors path is the most commercially revealing part of the positioning and it addresses a real and common situation.

Large organisations frequently run SuccessFactors as their core human resources system because it came with a wider SAP relationship, and find its recruiting module weaker than specialist alternatives. That leaves an unattractive choice: accept weaker recruiting capability, or replace the entire HR system to improve one function, which is disproportionate and rarely approved.

Offering a best-of-breed recruiting product designed to sit alongside SuccessFactors while maintaining continuity of the SAP HCM record is the third option, and it is the one most organisations in that position actually want. Whether it works depends entirely on the integration depth, since employee data must flow back correctly at the point of hire, and a recruiting system that cannot hand over cleanly creates manual re-entry at exactly the moment errors are most costly.

Publishing in German and French alongside English matters more in recruiting than in most software, because candidate-facing material must be in the candidate's language. A careers site and application process in the wrong language does not merely inconvenience applicants, it reduces who applies at all.

Bundling SMS messaging into the suite reflects that candidate response rates to email have fallen considerably, particularly for hourly and frontline roles where the candidate may not use email routinely.
