The parallel processing claim is the entire product argument and it addresses a genuine limitation in this field.

Spatial analysis is computationally heavy. Overlaying large datasets, processing imagery, computing viewsheds or running network analysis across a national road network are operations that take minutes or hours rather than seconds. Much GIS software performs these on a single processor core, which means a modern machine with sixteen cores uses one of them and the analyst waits while fifteen sit idle.

Parallelising that work is difficult, which is why it is not universal, and where it is done properly the difference is not incremental. An operation taking an hour on one core can complete in minutes across many, which changes what an analyst attempts rather than merely how long they wait. Work that takes an hour is done once and accepted; work that takes two minutes is iterated until it is right.

The price is the other notable characteristic. At $145 this sits far below professional GIS licensing, which places it in an unusual position: cheaper than the commercial standard and considerably more capable than a free tool at the operations where performance matters.

The practical caution is the one that applies to any product outside a standard. Data exchange, file format expectations and the availability of people who know the software all favour the incumbent, so the question is whether the performance advantage outweighs working outside what colleagues and clients use.
