Device42 maps infrastructure rather than network topology alone, and the distinction matters when comparing it with a diagramming tool. Its agentless discovery spans legacy mainframes through to cloud, building a picture of what exists and, more importantly, what depends on what. Application dependency mapping is native rather than an add-on.

The platform combines data centre infrastructure management, CMDB, IT asset management and reporting in one place, which is why it tends to be evaluated for migration and consolidation projects rather than day-to-day monitoring. Cloud migration capability includes AWS migration support and affinity-based automatic move groups, which use discovered dependencies to work out what has to move together. The company was acquired by Freshworks to strengthen its IT asset management capability and now trades as Device42, a Freshworks company. It reports customers across more than 60 countries.
