How to Download Snapchat Videos on iPhone and Android

How to Download Snapchat Videos on iPhone and Android

Saving Snapchat videos is easy when they are your own and close to impossible when they are someone else’s, by design. This guide covers saving your own video Snaps on iPhone and Android, exporting them from Memories, setting Snapchat to save straight to your camera roll, and what you can and cannot do with Snaps from friends. Based on Snapchat’s help pages, October 2026.

Save a video Snap right after you record it

  1. Hold the capture button to record your video Snap.
  2. On the preview screen, tap the Save (download arrow) button.
  3. The Snap is saved to Memories, to your camera roll, or both, depending on your Save setting below.

Make Snapchat save to your camera roll automatically

  1. Open Settings from your Profile.
  2. Go to My App, then Memories, then Save Button.
  3. Choose Memories & Camera Roll (or Camera Roll only).
  4. Tap the back arrow to save the choice.

Snapchat notes that it does not back up your phone’s camera roll, so anything saved only there is your phone’s responsibility. Saving to Memories as well keeps a copy in your Snapchat account.

Download videos you already saved to Memories

  1. Swipe up from the Camera screen to open Memories.
  2. Press and hold the video and tap Export.
  3. Choose where to save it, for example your camera roll or Files.

To export several at once, tap the selector icon at the top of Memories, pick the Snaps, and use the export options at the bottom. This works the same on iPhone and Android.

Save your own Story

Open your Story from your Profile and use the save or download option to save individual Snaps, or the whole Story, to Memories or your camera roll.

Download everything in one go

To get all your Memories at once, request them through My Data at accounts.snapchat.com. Our guide on downloading your Snapchat data explains the steps.

What about videos from other people?

  • Snaps from friends are meant to disappear. There is no download button, and Snapchat says it cannot provide copies of Snaps.
  • Saving in Chat: if a friend sends a video in Chat, you can press and hold it to save it in the conversation, if they allow it. Saved Chats are visible to both of you.
  • Screen recording: Snapchat notifies the sender when it detects a screenshot or screen recording of their Snap.
  • Third-party “Snapchat downloaders”: avoid apps or sites that ask for your Snapchat login. They break Snapchat’s terms and are a common way accounts get compromised.

FAQs

How do I save a Snapchat video to my camera roll?

Set Settings, My App, Memories, Save Button to Memories & Camera Roll, then tap Save after recording. For older Snaps, open Memories, press and hold the video and tap Export.

Can I download someone else’s Snapchat video?

Not directly. You can save a video a friend sends in Chat if they allow it, but Snapchat does not offer downloads of other people’s Snaps and notifies them about screen recordings.

Why are my saved Snapchat videos missing?

Check whether your Save Button is set to Memories only. If a Snap was never saved and has expired, Snapchat cannot recover it.

Can I export many Snapchat videos at once?

Yes. Use the selector icon in Memories to pick several Snaps, or request all Memories through My Data at accounts.snapchat.com.
