Smarsh organises its platform around four stages that mirror how a compliance obligation actually unfolds: capture, archive, surveillance and discovery, with professional services attached to each.

Capture takes in every supported channel, covering call recording and analytics, email, instant messaging and collaboration, mobile, social, voice and web. That breadth is the whole difficulty in this category. A regulated firm does not get to decide where a conversation happens, so an archive that covers email while missing a trading floor chat or a WhatsApp thread leaves the exposure exactly where the regulator will look.

The archive itself is cloud native and is described as preserving, enriching and analysing communications data at scale. Surveillance applies AI to that corpus, and discovery is built specifically for investigations rather than general search, with audit readiness as the stated goal.

Segmentation runs deep. Small and mid sized firms get a purpose built path separate from the enterprise offering, and named verticals include financial services, wealth management, broker dealers, RIAs, banking, public sector, federal, state and local government and life sciences. Public sector is framed around FOIA responses rather than financial regulation, which is a genuinely different obligation. Use cases are split into financial and non financial misconduct, the latter aimed at behavioural indicators rather than trading patterns. Pricing is not published.
