What is SolarWinds NPM?

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor, universally shortened to NPM, is one of the most widely deployed network monitoring products in enterprise IT. It is available as a standalone Orion module as well as part of the broader SolarWinds observability portfolio, which gives buyers a genuine choice about how much platform to adopt.

That modularity has always been the SolarWinds pattern. A network team can buy NPM alone and add server and application management, virtualisation monitoring, log analysis, server configuration management or VoIP and call quality management later, each as a separate module sharing the same Orion platform.

Pricing is published across the portfolio and starts at 8 dollars per node per month for monitoring and observability, with SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted starting at the same 8 dollars per node per month. Other portfolio areas are priced on their own units: database monitoring from 142 dollars per database per month, IT service management from 39 dollars per technician, and incident response from 15 dollars per user per month. Volume discounts are available.

The community around the product is a real asset. SolarWinds reports a user community of over 200,000 registered members alongside award winning technical support, extensive documentation, an NPM product forum and the SolarWinds Academy. For a network engineer troubleshooting an unusual device, that accumulated body of shared knowledge often resolves problems faster than support tickets.
