What is Spacelift?

Spacelift provides an end-to-end workflow for infrastructure as code, standardising and controlling how infrastructure is provisioned and configured while keeping provisioning easy for developers. Its recent work includes deploying modules straight from a module registry, and it publishes an annual infrastructure automation report alongside material on unifying infrastructure and application promotion.

Existing as a layer above infrastructure as code tells you what those tools leave undone. Terraform describes infrastructure and does not decide who may apply a change, in what order, with which approvals, or how a failure is handled, and every organisation past a certain size builds that scaffolding itself or buys it.

Making self-service safe for developers is the outcome being sold. A platform team either becomes the queue through which every infrastructure change passes, or gives developers a workflow with the controls built in, and the second scales while the first does not.

Supporting OpenTofu alongside Terraform is a meaningful hedge for buyers. The licence change that produced that fork left organisations wanting a path that does not depend on one vendor's terms, and a workflow layer covering both preserves that option.

Spacelift FAQs

The pricing page lists 20,000 dollars against the Starter Plus tier for growing teams optimising their infrastructure workflows, with other tiers above and below it.

Terraform describes infrastructure but does not decide who may apply a change, in what order, with which approvals, or how failures are handled. Organisations build that or buy it.

Safe developer self-service. A platform team either becomes the queue every change passes through, or provides a workflow with controls built in. Only the second scales.

The licence change that produced the fork left organisations wanting a path not dependent on one vendor's terms, and covering both preserves that option.

Deploying straight from a module registry, so reusable infrastructure components move into environments without being copied into each configuration.
