What is Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform?

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is the supported enterprise distribution of Ansible, published with automation controller, automation mesh, execution environments, Event-Driven Ansible, a self-service automation portal, Ansible Content Collections, automation hub, automation analytics and a set of development tools.

Event-Driven Ansible is the component that changes what automation is for. Conventional automation runs when somebody triggers it, which means it handles provisioning and change well and handles operations badly, because operational problems occur at three in the morning and wait for a person to notice. Event-driven execution reverses that: a monitoring alert, a webhook or a log condition triggers the remediation directly, so the response happens in seconds rather than after an escalation chain.

Automation mesh addresses the problem that follows once automation is taken seriously. A large network spans data centres, cloud regions and branch sites, many of which cannot be reached directly from a central controller because of firewalls or segmentation. Mesh distributes execution nodes so automation runs close to the targets rather than requiring flat connectivity that no security team would grant.

Execution environments are container images bundling the Ansible version, collections and Python dependencies a playbook needs. That solves the failure everyone hits eventually, where a playbook that worked last month fails because an underlying library changed, and it makes automation reproducible rather than dependent on whatever is installed on the control node.

The self-service automation portal is what makes automation useful to people who do not write it, letting other teams run approved automation without needing access to the tooling or the credentials underneath.

Ansible Content Collections and automation hub cover supported, curated content rather than assembled community modules, which is the practical difference between the community project and the platform.

Pricing is not published on the captured page, though a pricing page and a product trial are offered.

No figure was captured, though the vendor publishes a pricing page and offers a product trial. Enterprise subscriptions are normally quoted on managed node count and support level.

When automation runs. Conventional automation waits for a person to trigger it, so operational problems at three in the morning wait for someone to notice. Event-driven execution triggers remediation from an alert directly.

Because a large network spans data centres, cloud regions and branch sites that a central controller cannot reach directly through firewalls and segmentation. Mesh puts execution nodes close to the targets instead.

Reproducibility. They bundle the Ansible version, collections and Python dependencies as a container image, so a playbook that worked last month does not fail because a library on the control node changed.

Supported, curated content through Content Collections and automation hub, plus the controller, mesh, event-driven execution, analytics and self-service portal that the community project does not include.
