Particle Health provides a health data platform for developers, publishing product-ready insights drawn from a large network of connected data sources, with documentation, a play-for-free option and material on information blocking.

Product-ready is the phrase doing the work here, and it identifies the real difficulty in health data rather than the obvious one.

The obvious problem is access: getting clinical records out of the systems holding them. That is genuinely hard and it is largely solved by the networks that now connect most American providers.

The harder problem is what arrives. Clinical records retrieved across a network come back as large documents in formats designed for exchange between record systems rather than for use by an application. A patient's history may arrive as dozens of overlapping documents from different providers, with the same medication recorded three times under different names, allergies duplicated, and the useful information buried in narrative text.

A developer building a product cannot use that directly. They need to know current medications, not receive four documents from which current medications might be inferred. The work of turning one into the other is substantial, requires clinical knowledge, and is where health data projects overrun.

Publishing information blocking material is worth noting. Information blocking rules prohibit providers and vendors from unreasonably preventing access to health information, and they are the regulatory basis on which much of this exchange operates. A vendor publishing on it is signalling that it understands the compliance frame rather than only the technical one.

Free trial access with documentation reflects a developer-first go-to-market, which suits this market because the buyer is usually an engineer evaluating whether the data is usable before anyone signs anything.
