What is Nagios?
Nagios is a long standing infrastructure monitoring platform maintained by Nagios Enterprises, based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Nagios Core is the free, open source monitoring engine that checks the availability of servers, networks, and services and sends alerts when problems occur. Nagios XI is the commercial enterprise edition built on top of Core, adding a web based configuration interface, dashboards, and wizards.
Nagios XI is sold as a perpetual license rather than a subscription, with tiers based on the number of monitored nodes, plus an Enterprise add on for capacity planning and reporting. A free edition of Nagios XI supports up to 7 nodes or 100 services. Nagios also sells Log Server, Network Analyzer, and Fusion as separate licensed products.
