Myndshft covers the financial clearance work that happens before a patient is treated, spanning eligibility and benefits verification, coordination of benefits, insurance discovery, patient financial responsibility and prior authorization, driven by an engine the vendor calls CognitiveBus.

Grouping these together reflects that they are one sequence rather than five tasks. Before treatment a provider must establish that the patient has coverage, which plan is primary where there is more than one, whether the treatment needs authorisation, and what the patient will owe. Doing them in separate systems means the same patient and payer details are looked up repeatedly, and an answer from one step is frequently the input to the next.

Insurance discovery is the least visible and often the most valuable. Patients arrive without knowing their coverage details or believing they are uninsured when they are not, and finding active coverage converts what would have been unrecoverable bad debt into a payable claim.

Patient financial responsibility matters for a different reason. Telling someone what they will owe before treatment rather than weeks afterwards is both better practice and materially better for collection, since a bill that arrives as a surprise is far less likely to be paid.
