Infuse bridges a media collection to every Apple device, automatically fetching rich metadata to organise a library, with streaming and playback across the Apple ecosystem.

Committing to one platform rather than supporting everything is the defining choice, and it produces advantages a cross-platform player cannot match.

Cross-platform software targets the common denominator. It must work on Windows, Android, various televisions and set-top boxes, which means it cannot depend on any single platform's particular capabilities and generally cannot match any platform's native interface conventions. The result works everywhere and feels native nowhere.

Building only for Apple devices allows the opposite. The application can use platform video decoding, integrate with the system picture-in-picture and continuity features, follow the interface conventions users already know, and hand off playback between devices in the way the platform intends. For a household entirely on Apple hardware, that produces a noticeably better experience than a generalist player.

The cost is exactly as stated: it works on Apple devices and nowhere else, so a household with mixed hardware needs something else in addition, which defeats much of the purpose of a unified library.

Automatic metadata fetching is the capability that turns a folder of files into a library, and it does more work than it appears. Matching a file to the correct title, season and episode from an inconsistently named collection is genuinely difficult, and it is the difference between a browsable library and a directory listing.

Bridging to a collection rather than hosting it means Infuse plays from wherever the files live, including network storage, without requiring a media server to transcode.
