Google offers two distinct content delivery networks, and knowing which one applies is the first thing to establish. Cloud CDN accelerates web applications using Google's global edge network. Media CDN is separate and uses YouTube's infrastructure to deliver video streams, both on-demand and live, along with large file downloads. They solve different problems, and the video-heavy case is served by the second rather than by a configuration of the first.

The Media CDN point is the genuinely distinctive one in this category. YouTube's delivery infrastructure exists because Google had to solve video distribution at a scale nobody else operates at, and offering that same infrastructure commercially is a different proposition from a general-purpose CDN with video features added. For a business whose costs are dominated by streaming, that provenance is worth investigating specifically.

Cloud CDN's own claim is straightforward: it uses the same network that serves 2 billion Google users. Google frames the offering around a decade of experience delivering content, scaling to bring content closer to a global audience. Note that this is a platform credit rather than a CDN price: the underlying rates are usage-based within Google Cloud billing, so model expected traffic against the published Cloud CDN rate card before committing.
