What is Esko?

Esko automates, connects and accelerates the packaging process from design through to shelf, covering the whole route a package takes to market rather than any single step. The go-to-market framing is accurate: the bottleneck in packaging is rarely design and almost always approval.

A single package artwork passes through brand teams, regulatory review, legal, printers and retailers, each of whom may require a change, and each change restarts the review. Weeks disappear into that loop, and for a seasonal product a delay does not shift the launch, it removes the season.

Structural design and prepress are the technical halves either side of that. The carton has to fold correctly and print correctly, and errors in either are discovered at the printer where they are most expensive to fix, which is why three dimensional proofing before committing to plates pays for itself.

Variant management is the problem that grows fastest and is least anticipated. One product sold in eight countries needs eight artworks differing in language, regulatory text and sometimes ingredients, and keeping those consistent when the master design changes is precisely what a manual process cannot do reliably at any scale. Approval rather than design. Artwork passes through brand, regulatory, legal, printers and retailers, and each requested change restarts the review.

For a seasonal product a delay does not shift the launch, it removes the season, so weeks lost in an approval loop are revenue lost outright.

Folding and print errors are otherwise discovered at the printer, where they are most expensive to fix, so proofing before committing to plates pays for itself.
