Universities typically hold course and unit information in several systems that disagree with one another, and the published handbook, the student system and the approved curriculum record frequently diverge. Establishing one accurate record is the precondition for everything else.

Curriculum Governance covers the approval processes that surround changes. University curriculum changes pass through committee structures with defined authority, and tracking a proposal through those stages is administrative work that consumes significant academic time when handled by email and spreadsheet.
