What is Clarity LIMS?

Clarity LIMS is Illumina's laboratory information management system, purpose-built for genomics labs rather than general-purpose laboratory work, and was formerly branded BaseSpace Clarity LIMS. It tracks samples and automates workflows specifically around sequencing: generating sample sheets, catching poor-quality samples before they reach a sequencing run, and integrating directly with Illumina instruments and lab automation systems.

Unusually for enterprise lab software, Illumina publishes two named subscription plans directly: Professional, covering one instance and three named users, and Enterprise, covering two instances and ten named users with HIPAA BAA and additional security certifications included. Both renew annually and support on-premises or cloud deployment. Named features include end-to-end sample traceability, a genealogy view, real-time status monitoring, 60+ preconfigured Illumina preset protocols, role-based permissions with audit trails, and a drag-and-drop pooling interface.
