Cision provides media intelligence, and its current framing addresses what it calls the data fragmentation trap: the argument that traditional media monitoring alone no longer describes a brand's presence, because the conversation now spans social, search and AI generated answers as well.

That is a fair description of what changed. A communications team once measured coverage by counting articles, and now a mention in a widely read discussion thread, a position in search results and how an assistant characterises the company can each matter more than a trade publication piece nobody reads.

Cision is the largest name in this category and owns much of the surrounding infrastructure including PR Newswire and PRWeb, so it sits on both sides of the relationship, distributing releases and measuring their effect. That is efficient for a buyer and worth noticing as a concentration.

Media contact databases are the other half of the product and the part that decays fastest. Journalists move, beats change and outlets close continuously, so a contact list is only as good as the effort maintaining it, which is much of what the subscription pays for. No pricing is published; the vendor uses a request form, which in this category usually signals a figure large enough that publishing it would deter enquiries.
