What is AWS CodeCommit?

AWS CodeCommit is Amazon's managed private Git repository hosting service, integrated with AWS Identity and Access Management for access control and AWS Key Management Service for encryption at rest. It supports pull requests, code review, and repository triggers that can invoke Lambda functions or send notifications through Amazon SNS, and it works with standard Git tools and CI/CD systems including AWS CodePipeline and CodeBuild.

AWS announced in 2024 that it would stop onboarding new customers to CodeCommit, but reversed course in late 2025 and returned the service to full general availability, with new features such as Git LFS support and additional regional availability planned for 2026. It offers an indefinite free tier and low usage-based pricing beyond that.
