Syniti provides the Syniti Knowledge Platform, an enterprise data management suite whose modules cover migration, quality, matching, replication, cataloguing and governance, and master data management. It is aimed at business initiatives including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, cloud moves, data compliance and archiving, and has been acquired by Capgemini.

Migration being the first module rather than an afterthought reveals where this company came from and who buys it. Most master data problems become visible during a migration, because moving data to a new system is when an organisation discovers how many duplicate customers it has and how many product records nobody can explain. A platform that arrives with the migration and stays for the ongoing management follows the actual sequence of events.

The mergers and divestitures framing follows the same logic. Combining two companies' master data, or cleanly separating it, is the hardest version of this problem and carries a deadline that makes it fundable in a way ongoing data quality work rarely is.

The Capgemini acquisition changes the commercial picture. A consultancy now owns the tooling, which suits customers already running such programmes with services attached and is worth weighing by anyone who wanted software alone.
