What is Rudder?

Rudder is an infrastructure security automation platform combining configuration management with continuous compliance and vulnerability management across hybrid infrastructure. It is European in origin and positions itself around securing infrastructure rather than only configuring it.

Framing configuration management as security is more than repositioning. Most security incidents involving infrastructure come from configuration rather than exotic exploits: a service left exposed, a default credential unchanged, a patch not applied. A system that continuously enforces configuration is therefore already a security control, and treating it as one changes which team owns it and what it is measured on.

Continuous compliance is the mechanism, checking machines against defined policy constantly rather than at audit time. The difference matters because a quarterly audit reports what was true on one day, while continuous checking catches the window between a machine drifting and someone noticing, which is when it is actually exposed.

Hybrid infrastructure coverage reflects the estate most organisations have. Cloud instances, on premises servers and edge devices all need the same policy applied, and a tool covering only one leaves the others to a different process with different assurance.

Yes. Hybrid coverage applies the same policy across cloud instances, on premises servers and edge devices, rather than leaving some to a separate process.

Rudder has an open source core with a commercial edition above it, which is the common pattern for infrastructure automation tooling.
