Sitting inside the exchange group rather than beside it is the structural fact worth understanding, because LSEG owns the index business, the exchange and the data terminal, which means the benchmark a fund tracks, the venue it trades on and the screen its analysts read can all come from one supplier.

That concentration is efficient and it is also the reason competition authorities examined the Refinitiv acquisition closely, and it is a fair question for a buyer to ask about pricing leverage over the long term rather than only about the product's capability today.

What Workspace actually competes on against the Bloomberg terminal is the same thing every product in this category does: whether the specific data an institution needs is there, whether the analysts already know the keyboard, and what the seat costs, in roughly that order.
