What is OneShield?

OneShield provides insurance software across policy, billing, rating, claims, relationship management, reinsurance, reporting, digital distribution and insurance content, published as OneShield Enterprise with a separate OneShield Market Solutions edition and an AI Hub.

Publishing two editions distinguished by customer type rather than by size is the notable structure. Enterprise covers the full stack for carriers; Market Solutions targets managing general agents and specialty carriers with policy, billing, claims and reporting.

That distinction reflects a genuine difference in the business. A carrier underwrites risk on its own balance sheet and needs reinsurance management, regulatory capital reporting and the full apparatus of an insurance company. An MGA underwrites on behalf of carriers under delegated authority, which means it needs to demonstrate to those carriers that it operated within the authority granted, and its reporting obligations point outward to its capacity providers rather than to regulators alone.

Specialty carriers appearing alongside MGAs is consistent, since specialty lines involve non-standard risks priced individually rather than from rate tables, and software assuming standard personal lines products handles them badly.

Reinsurance being a named module in the Enterprise edition matters because it is where carriers most often run on spreadsheets, and reinsurance recoveries are substantial sums that depend on correctly identifying which treaty covers which loss.

Insurance Content published as a capability suggests supplied rating content and product definitions rather than requiring each carrier to build its products from nothing, which is a substantial implementation saving.

Pricing is not published, which is standard in this category.

OneShield FAQs

No pricing is published, which is standard for insurance platforms. Cost normally depends on premium volume, modules taken and implementation scope.

Because a carrier underwrites on its own balance sheet and needs reinsurance and regulatory capital reporting, while an MGA underwrites under delegated authority and reports outward to its capacity providers.

Specialty lines involve non-standard risks priced individually rather than from rate tables. Software assuming standard personal lines products handles individually rated risks badly.

Because carriers most often run it on spreadsheets, and reinsurance recoveries are substantial sums depending on correctly identifying which treaty covers which loss. Errors there are expensive and hard to detect.

Implementation. Rating content and product definitions provided by the vendor mean a carrier is configuring supplied products rather than building each one from nothing, which is a substantial part of the project.
