eXo Platform

eXo Platform is an open source digital workplace, and it makes an unusually direct commercial claim: it is positioned explicitly as a Microsoft 365 alternative, with a guided, secure migration path from existing tools. That framing tells you what it is for. Organisations choosing it are typically pursuing digital sovereignty, avoiding vendor lock-in, or meeting requirements that a large United States cloud provider cannot satisfy, rather than seeking features Microsoft lacks.

The use cases are collaboration rather than publishing. A modern intranet builds internal culture and a sense of belonging, a collaboration platform supports teamwork and project work, a social network engages users and recognises contributions, a knowledge hub centralises and organises company knowledge, and an application portal provides unified access to business applications and information. Content management sits underneath all of these, which is why it appears in this category despite not being a conventional web CMS.

Several product decisions reflect the sovereignty positioning. Controlled AI is described as governed and extensible, so AI capability can be added without sending content to an uncontrolled service. Deployment options include private cloud and on-premise for the Enterprise offer, with eXo Hubs as a ready-to-use SaaS edition for teams and an OEM edition for software vendors and service providers. No-code configuration allows tailoring without development, internationalisation supports multilingual environments, and branded mobile applications are available. Source code is published on GitHub, REST APIs are documented, and component licensing is set out openly. eXo Platform 7.1 is the current release, and the company publishes on digital sovereignty and cloud versus on-premise decisions.
