Fathom turns accounting data into management reporting, cash flow forecasting and financial analysis, integrating with QuickBooks Online, Xero and MYOB AccountRight, and importing from any other accounting system through Excel. Non-financial operational data can be imported alongside the ledger, and the product now includes AI commentary written into reports.

Pricing by number of companies rather than by user is what makes it an accountant's tool. A practice reporting for twenty five clients pays a tier price plus a small increment per additional company, which is the correct shape for a firm and an awkward one for a single business that only needs one.

Bringing operational data in beside the financials is the analytical difference. Revenue per employee, utilisation or units shipped explain a movement in the accounts that the accounts alone only describe, and the reporting is more useful for it.

The vendor is unusually candid about its AI commentary, describing testing and red teaming by a machine learning specialist to reduce hallucination. That is the right disclosure to make for a feature that writes narrative over a client's financial results, and a firm should still read what it produces before sending it to a client under its own letterhead.
