Veeam provides backup, recovery and data resilience across virtual machines, physical servers, cloud workloads and software as a service applications, with the Veeam Data Cloud delivering managed protection alongside the software customers run themselves.

Recovery rather than backup is what the product is judged on, and the distinction is the one buyers most often get wrong. Backups run quietly and succeed almost always, so a team can operate for years believing it is protected. The question that matters is whether a specific system can actually be restored, in what time, to what point, and the answer is only known if it has been tested. Software that makes restore testing routine is doing the part that counts.

Breadth of workload coverage is the practical requirement for a mixed estate. Most organisations run virtual machines, some physical servers, cloud instances and Microsoft 365 simultaneously, and protecting each with a different tool means four consoles, four schedules and four sets of restore procedures nobody rehearses.

Protecting SaaS data deserves emphasis because it is widely misunderstood. Microsoft 365 and similar services replicate data for availability but do not protect a customer against their own deletion or a ransomware event, and the responsibility for that copy sits with the customer.
