What is Druva?

Druva delivers data protection entirely as a service, covering endpoints, cloud native workloads across AWS and Microsoft Azure, SaaS applications and data centre systems, with no backup infrastructure for the customer to deploy or maintain.

Having no infrastructure is the whole proposition and it removes a genuine irony in this category. Traditional backup requires servers, storage and software that must themselves be patched, monitored, capacity planned and eventually replaced, so the system protecting everything else becomes another system to protect. Delivering it as a service moves that burden to the vendor entirely.

Endpoint protection is where the model shows best. Laptops are rarely on the corporate network, are frequently lost or stolen and hold data that exists nowhere else, and protecting them from cloud infrastructure the device can reach from anywhere works where a datacentre based backup server does not.

The trade is control and egress. Data lives in the vendor's environment, so restore speed depends on the connection and a full recovery of a large dataset takes as long as the pipe allows, which is the calculation to make before choosing this model for large on premises estates.
