Tanium

Tanium is an autonomous endpoint management and security platform providing real-time endpoint intelligence, guidance and action, with Tanium Atlas presenting all three in one experience.

The problem Tanium names is stated more bluntly than most vendors manage: your security stack is lying to you. Legacy tools scan on a schedule while attackers do not wait for the next scan, and AI-generated threats have compressed exploit timelines from weeks to hours. A tool reporting the state of the estate as of last night is answering a question about the past during an incident happening now.

Shadow endpoints are the second claim and the figure is worth taking seriously: Tanium states the average enterprise has 20 percent more endpoints than its configuration management database reports, and every unknown device is an open door. That is the failure mode behind a large share of breaches, because a machine nobody knows about is by definition unpatched, unmonitored and unmanaged.

Real-time querying is the architectural answer and it is what Tanium built its reputation on: asking a question of every endpoint and receiving current answers in seconds rather than reading a database of what agents last reported.
