Skedda is a workplace booking platform covering desk booking, meeting rooms, general office space booking and lab booking, published across use cases where physical space is shared and scheduled.

Lab booking as a named use case is the detail that reveals the product handles a harder scheduling problem than desks alone.

Booking a desk is close to trivial: any desk will do, they are interchangeable, and the only constraint is that two people cannot have the same one. Booking laboratory equipment is not like that at all. Instruments are unique, expensive, and frequently require training or authorisation to use. Some need setup or cleaning time between users. Some cannot run while an adjacent instrument runs. Some are booked in blocks that must not be split.

Software that models only interchangeable resources cannot express those rules, and research facilities end up on shared spreadsheets and sign-up sheets on doors, which is why equipment worth a great deal sits idle while somebody waits for a slot they did not know was free.

Desk booking is the volume use case and its own value depends on hybrid working patterns. An office where everyone attends daily needs no booking system; an office at 40 percent occupancy with unassigned desks needs one, and the useful output is not the booking but the occupancy data showing how much space the organisation actually requires.

That data is what turns a booking tool into a property decision, since office space is usually an organisation's second largest cost after payroll.
