What is Upscayl?
Upscayl is a free and open-source AI image upscaler for Linux, macOS, and Windows. It runs locally on the user's own GPU using Real-ESRGAN neural network models and a Vulkan rendering backend, enlarging and enhancing low-resolution or pixelated images up to 16x without uploading files to the cloud. The desktop app is completely free, has no watermarks, no usage limits, and requires no internet connection after installation.
For users without a capable GPU, Upscayl also offers an optional paid cloud service called Upscayl Cloud, which processes images on remote servers using a credit-based subscription or one-time credit packages. The desktop app supports batch upscaling, multiple selectable AI models (including High Fidelity, Remacri, and UltraSharp), a before-and-after comparison slider, and custom model imports.
