What is Ansys SCADE?

Ansys SCADE Suite is a model based development environment for safety critical embedded software, used in aerospace, automotive, rail and industrial control. Ansys is now part of Synopsys, and the product sits in its embedded software portfolio alongside testing tooling.

Qualified code generation is the reason this product exists and the reason it commands the price it does. In certified domains, software must satisfy standards such as DO-178C in aerospace or ISO 26262 in automotive, and every stage of development has to produce evidence for a certification authority. A code generator qualified against those standards means generated code does not have to be verified as though hand written, which removes an enormous quantity of certification work.

That is the whole economic argument. The tooling is expensive and the alternative is more expensive still, because the verification effort it displaces is measured in engineer years on a large programme.

Formal verification capability lets properties be proven about a model rather than tested sample by sample, which matters where a safety case must argue about all possible inputs and not just the ones a test suite happened to try. Simulation and testing integration close the loop from model to verified implementation, and recent releases add AI assisted testing and cloud continuous integration.
