What is Cloudflare DNS?

Cloudflare DNS is authoritative DNS served from Cloudflare's global anycast network, positioned on query speed, resistance to distributed denial of service attacks, and an API that is free and fully featured rather than restricted to paid plans. A free tier covers personal and hobby projects and paid plans start at a published rate.

Anycast is what produces the speed claim and it is worth understanding rather than taking on trust. The same address is announced from data centres worldwide, so a query is answered by whichever is closest to the user in network terms. That converts DNS resolution from a round trip across continents into a local one, and it is the first thing every page load waits on.
