Oracle Cloud Infrastructure DNS is a cloud-native DNS service serving both internet-facing and internal requests, with global load balancing and request steering on multiple characteristics. It descends from Dyn, the managed DNS provider Oracle acquired, and now sits in OCI's networking portfolio alongside virtual cloud networks, FastConnect, load balancers and a network firewall.

Serving public and private resolution from one service is the practical benefit for an organisation already on OCI. Most estates end up running an internal resolver separately from their public DNS, which means two systems, two sets of records and a recurring class of problem where a name resolves correctly from outside the network and not from inside it.
