What is TCPWave?

TCPWave provides a DDI management ecosystem controlling DNS, DHCP and IP address management across on premises and cloud environments, sold alongside application delivery controller management and a web application firewall. It presents itself as a secure overlay for core network services rather than as network services alone.

Selling DDI together with application delivery and web application firewalling is an unusual combination, and the logic is that these all sit on the path a request takes. A name is resolved, traffic is directed to a target, and that traffic is inspected before reaching the application. Managing all three from one place gives a view of the whole path rather than three views of three segments, which is exactly what is missing when diagnosing a problem that could be in any of them.

The security framing runs throughout, describing the DDI layer as a secure management ecosystem. That reflects a shift in how these services are viewed, from plumbing to be kept running toward a control point worth defending, since DNS is both critical and a common exfiltration channel.

Covering on premises and cloud from one control plane addresses the estate most organisations actually have, where workloads live in both and each side has historically been managed by different teams with different tools.
