What is BlueCat Micetro?

Micetro is BlueCat's DDI management product, providing unified control of DNS, DHCP and IP address management across servers an organisation already runs. Rather than replacing existing infrastructure, it sits above it and manages what is there.

That overlay approach is the whole distinction and it answers the practical objection to DDI projects. A large organisation typically runs Microsoft DNS in one place, BIND in another and cloud provider DNS in a third, each with its own history and its own owner. Replacing them is a disruptive programme touching the most fragile part of the network, whereas managing them where they are delivers unified visibility and control without the migration.

Unified visibility is usually the first thing gained and often the most valuable. Simply knowing every DNS zone and every allocated address across a fragmented estate is something many organisations cannot currently produce, and it is a prerequisite for automating anything.

Automation follows from that, letting address allocation and DNS record creation happen through an API as part of provisioning rather than as a ticket someone works manually. In an environment where infrastructure is created and destroyed continuously, manual address management stops being viable.

BlueCat Micetro FAQs

No rate is published. BlueCat asks buyers to make contact, with pricing depending on the size of the managed estate.

It sits above the DNS and DHCP servers an organisation already runs and manages them where they are, rather than requiring migration off Microsoft DNS, BIND or cloud DNS onto new infrastructure.

Unified visibility. Knowing every DNS zone and allocated address across a fragmented estate is something many organisations cannot currently produce, and it is the prerequisite for automating anything.

Where infrastructure is created and destroyed continuously, allocating addresses and creating DNS records by ticket stops being viable. An API lets both happen as part of provisioning.

Both are BlueCat DDI products. Micetro manages existing DNS and DHCP servers as an overlay, while Integrity is the platform for organisations consolidating onto BlueCat's own infrastructure.
