Siemens Teamcenter

Teamcenter is Siemens' product lifecycle management system, covering product data management, bill of materials management, change and configuration control, document management and integration with computer aided design and manufacturing systems across the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

Being the system of record for the product rather than for the CAD files is the distinction that separates PLM from file management, and it is what makes these implementations large. Teamcenter holds which parts make up which product in which configuration for which market, and that structure is what manufacturing, purchasing, service and compliance all read from.

Change control is where the value actually accrues, because a modification to one part propagates to every assembly, document, supplier and service manual that references it, and doing that by hand across a product with fifty thousand parts is how errors reach production.

Siemens owning the CAD system as well means the integration is native rather than a connector, which is a genuine advantage for NX users and a fair question for anyone standardised on a competitor's design tools, since Teamcenter handles multi-CAD data but the tightest coupling is with Siemens' own. Requirements management, supplier collaboration and compliance records complete the picture. Rates are not published on the product pages.
