What is Aerospike?
Aerospike is a real-time database aimed at AI and high-throughput operational workloads, built on a patented Hybrid Memory Architecture that the company describes as delivering memory-like latency with the durability and cost of solid state drives.
That architecture is the whole economic argument and it is worth stating plainly. Keeping a large dataset entirely in random access memory gives excellent latency and a bill that scales brutally with size, while keeping it on disk inverts both. Hybrid memory holds indexes in memory and data on flash, which captures most of the latency benefit at a fraction of the cost, and it is the reason Aerospike appears in deployments where a purely in-memory system would be unaffordable.
The scale claim has a concrete reference: LexisNexis is cited as using 1.3 petabytes of data to build what is described as the world's largest identity network, with full access across the entire set. A named customer with a stated data volume is considerably more useful than an unattributed benchmark.
Tail latency that endures for years is the durability claim behind the performance one, achieved through a deterministic architecture that keeps response times stable rather than degrading as data and load grow, which is the failure pattern most operational databases eventually exhibit. Voyager is the newer visual workspace for querying, troubleshooting and visualising data, and it connects Claude, Cursor and other coding agents directly to a cluster, in free preview for Mac, Windows and Linux.
