What is KanTime?

KanTime covers home health, hospice, palliative care and self-direction, with intake and referral management, eligibility verification, authorisations, scheduling, clinical point of care, order tracking and quality assurance.

Eligibility verification and authorisations appearing early in that list reflects where home health agencies actually lose money, which is before care is delivered rather than during it.

Home health is paid by insurers and public programmes under strict conditions. A patient must be eligible, the service must be authorised in advance, the authorisation covers a specific number of visits over a specific period, and care delivered outside those bounds is not reimbursed regardless of whether it was clinically necessary.

Agencies routinely deliver unauthorised care. A nurse visits because the patient needs a visit, the authorisation had expired or covered fewer visits than the plan required, and the agency discovers the gap when the claim is denied weeks later. The care was appropriate, it was documented, and it was free.

Checking eligibility at intake and tracking authorisation consumption against the care plan is what prevents that, and it is entirely administrative work that clinical staff should not be doing during a visit.

Self-direction as a named programme type is worth noting because it works differently: the patient or family directs their own care and may employ their own caregivers, which changes who is scheduled, who is paid and what the agency's role actually is.
