What is Red Hat OpenStack Services?

Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift runs OpenStack with its control plane containerised on Kubernetes through OpenShift, which is a genuine architectural change rather than a packaging one.

Putting the control plane in containers means the components managing the cloud are themselves managed by Kubernetes, gaining its scheduling, health checking and rolling update behaviour. Operating OpenStack has historically been its hardest part, and delegating control plane lifecycle to a system built for exactly that work removes a large share of the operational burden.

The platform runs bare metal, virtualised and containerised applications from one place, which is the practical reason enterprises adopt it. Real estates contain all three and managing them separately multiplies both tooling and the people who understand it. Deployment uses Ansible and OpenShift Go Operators for fast parallel processing, reducing time, complexity and risk.

Red Hat is explicit about migration from VMware, offering a streamlined path to move virtual machines without disruption, which reflects where much current demand originates. Security includes encrypted communication between services, encrypted memory cache and secure role based access control, and observability has been refreshed with natively integrated visualisations of hybrid cloud health. Red Hat brings nearly twenty years of open source leadership and extensive upstream contribution, with award winning support, training and consulting. Pricing is by subscription and not published.
