What is Phaser?

Phaser is a fast, free, open-source 2D game framework for making HTML5 games that run in desktop and mobile browsers. Released under the MIT license, it provides a scene-based architecture, an asset loader, Arcade and Matter.js physics, tilemaps, particles, tweens, and an animation system, using both Canvas and WebGL rendering with automatic fallback. It works with plain JavaScript or TypeScript as well as React, Vue, Angular, and Svelte, and games can be wrapped for native app stores, Steam, Discord Activities, and YouTube Playables.

Alongside the free framework, Phaser Studio sells the Phaser Editor, a commercial desktop visual editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux with VSCode integration, starting at $12 per month, plus a custom-priced Enterprise tier with seat management and SSO. The core Phaser framework itself always remains free.
